My presentation is entitled, In Markets We Trust: The Unexpected Rebuilding of the Social Contract via Farmers Markets. The Yerusha Academy presents this conference to explore the intersection between faith, sustainability and labor justice in the food sector and work toward creating a more just and sustainable food system.
What: A digital conference, with my 45 minute session to address the largely ignored role of farmers markets to rebuild the social contract between unlikely protagonists: consumers, producers, and the communities that host farmers markets. When faith in existing civic institutions continues to plummet, people seek new ways to connect. And while the pathway of old may seem dead or at least unappealing, it is the remarkable case that a very, very old strategy (in farmers markets), we are finding new ways to connect.
